NetDragon Takes Vice President Role within New Fujian Trade Coalition
On December 30th, local merchants and officials gathered in the port city of Fuzhou to discuss fresh opportunities presented by the upcoming Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Dubbed "Unifying New Energy of Fujian Merchants, Advancing the New Journey of RCEP", the conference aimed to energize the region's traders about the benefits of this 10-nation trade bloc. Concurrently, history was made - the inaugural assembly of Fujian Asia-Pacific Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Association (FJAPCP), cementing its founding that day. Among organizations ratified to help guide this coalition is internet innovator NetDragon, accepted into a pivotal vice-leadership role represented by CEO Dr. Xiong Li in attendance.
Slated to take effect January 1st, RCEP aims to create the world's largest free trade region based on population, trade volume and future business potential. The initial implementing countries span Southeast Asia's six ASEAN members as well as China, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. All count as top trade partners for Fujian Province already. In a bid to maximize RCEP's benefits, the Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce worked diligently to establish the promotion association and get stakeholders onboard.
International commerce infuses Fujian's economy. Recent years witnessed trade with RCEP countries blossom further. By 2020's end, these partners had poured $14.5 billion into 6,869 projects across the province. Meanwhile, Fujian invested $8.21 billion in 539 ventures within RCEP nations from 2010-present. Overseas economic zones in Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia established by local firms have attracted $640 million by the end of 2020 as well.
Based in Fuzhou, NetDragon is a renowned exporter of educational software. Leveraging its coastal location plus policies supporting local innovators, the company ventured overseas early on. Years of effort paid off - NetDragon now reaches a huge global digital education audience.
Since 2010, NetDragon fused "gaming and learning" into a dual strategy. This steadily expanded its reach into foreign markets. The tech firm now works closely with ministry-level partners in Malaysia, Serbia, Thailand, Ghana and Egypt, earning UNESCO strategic partnership. Its offerings access over 190 nations, serving 1.3 million classrooms and 100 million users including in new RCEP trade bloc countries.
As the first Chinese provincial trade body responding to RCEP, FJAPCP attracted 900+ local companies since its preparation just months ago. Its role bridging government and industry will leverage enterprises like NetDragon.
NetDragon's appointment as an FJAPCP Vice President acknowledges its industry standing plus contributions to Fujian's commerce abroad as a digital economy leader. Company Chief Dr. Xiong Li sees FJAPCP as key to boosting the province's global commerce. "It provides a crucial platform for coordinating external economic and trade exchanges plus cooperation," he shared.
In recent years, NetDragon has strongly supported China's Belt and Road Initiative by pushing into emerging digital education markets along the way. Taking on increased responsibility, the edtech trailblazer will continue collaboration with existing RCEP nations while exploring new opportunities. Joining hands with fellow members, it's committed to spurring trade and bringing greater prosperity to Fujian.
